Chicago depends on public service workers to keep us safe and keep us moving.
Public employees include 911 operators, streets and sanitation employees, nurses and health care workers, mental health counselors, mass transit workers, and many more. Every day during this crisis, they have risked their own health and safety to keep Chicago moving.
However, City of Chicago is facing a budget shortfall because of the coronavirus and resulting economic slowdown.
Public employees provide critical services that residents rely on. Any reduction in the capacity of these public employees will be catastrophic for residents who rely on these services. We should not turn our backs on public workers after they spent months on the frontlines providing essential services.
